Description

Cuvée René Geoffroy Pureté is a multi-millennium Brut nature, designed to benefit from a long stay in the Maison's cellars to develop exceptional natural balance. Created from the same blend as the Expression cuvée, it benefits from five years' extended maturation on laths. Late disgorgement is carried out without dosage, allowing the wine to mature over time, feeding off its lees. The vines, over 30 years old, are located in the village of Cumières, classified Premier Cru. The clay-limestone, sandy and marly soils bring a richness to the terroir. The blend is composed of 40% Pinot Noir, 35% Meunier and 25% Chardonnay, with half from 2018 and half from the perpetual Réserve started in the 1970s. This Brut nature is dosed at 0 g/L. The grapes, hand-picked at optimum ripeness and carefully sorted, are pressed using a traditional Coquard press. Gravity-fed, parcel-by-parcel vinification takes place in enamelled steel vats, with fermentation using indigenous yeasts. The wines of Réserve are aged on their lees in concrete vats. After 60 months on laths, the wine is neither filtered nor fined. On tasting, the nose is discreet and crystalline, offering an invigorating minerality with floral and lemony notes. On the palate, aromas of citrus, green apple, pear and gunflint unfold with an elegant, almost chalky texture. The pure structure is perfectly matched with iodized flavors, notably those of shellfish such as oysters or sea urchins. The finish is lively, streamlined and enhanced by fine bitters. This Champagne is a true ode to the purity and expression of terroir.
